(Columbia, MD) – The Board of Trustees of Howard Community College (HCC) has named Kevin Doyle as chair, effective July 1, 2012. Mr. Doyle, who has been a member of the board since 2007, serving as its vice chair from July 2011 through June 2012, succeeds Ms. Kathy Rensin, who served as chair for the last two years. In his capacity as chair, Mr. Doyle will also chair the board’s audit and finance committee. Current board member Edmund “Skip” Coale, III, who has served with the board since July 2010, will replace Mr. Doyle as vice chair, and will also chair the board’s legislative and community relations committee. The board of trustees elected Mr. Doyle and Mr. Coale unanimously at its meeting on May 23, 2012.
Mr. Doyle has been extensively involved in Howard County for many years. He is a past president of the Greater Elkridge Community Association and past co-chair of the Route One Revitalization Task Force, which produced a highly recognized zoning, marketing, and business plan for development along the Route One corridor in Howard County. He served on the workgroup that produced the General Plan for Howard County in 2000. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Doyle also served on the Howard County Library Board of Trustees and the Howard County Appeals Board. As an employee of the federal government for more than 38 years, Mr. Doyle has made extensive contributions in the fields of budget, property management and program policy. He served as president of the Board of Directors of the Social Security Child Care Centers and testified before Congress on the need for quality child care.
Mr. Coale is a certified public accountant (CPA) with Coale, Pripstein, and Associates, PA and has more than 35 years of experience. Some of his current and past roles in Howard County include serving as the treasurer and member of the board of directors of the James Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund (JREF); treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Urban Rural Transportation Alliance, Inc. (URTA); charter president, treasurer, sergeant at arms, and newsletter editor of the Rotary Club of Columbia Patuxent; and treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Coale is a 1991 graduate of Leadership Howard County and is a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America. He was recognized as the 2001 Accountant Advocate of the Year for the State of Maryland by the U. S. Small Business Administration and was recognized in 2010 as a Washington Smart CPA. The Baltimore SmartCEO magazine also recognized Mr. Coale as one of Maryland's Smart CPAs in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
