January 13, 2012 (Columbia, MD) – Howard Community College’s (HCC) The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery features “The Art of Seduction: Exquisitely Crafted Temptations,” curated by Gail M. Brown, from January 12 to March 18, 2012. The exhibition features 52 works by 39 artists from across the country and includes a range of sculpture, fabric, ceramics, jewelry, glass, wood, and other materials. A free public gallery reception will be held on February 16 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a gallery talk by Brown beginning at 6 p.m. “Anticipation, enticement, ideas, experience, response, memory. ‘The Art of Seduction’ offers enticing stimulation and questions,” says Brown. “The diverse works explore the subject within the visual arena. What is seductive? These unique, contemporary, handmade objects offer enticements — tactilely in seductive material palettes and processes; emotionally by the attraction of their forms and frames of reference; and intellectually by the power and context of their potent ideas. In ceramics, fibers, glass, jewelry, metals, wood, and mixed media palettes, tempting objects by the artists engage us in the experience.” The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery is located in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center on the HCC campus at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD, 21044. Exhibit viewing hours are Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about the exhibition and gallery programs, contact Gallery Director Rebecca Bafford at rbafford@howardcc.edu.
