(Columbia, MD) – The Howard Community College (HCC) Music Department invites the public to experience the intimate, acoustically-engineered John G. Monteabaro Recital Hall in the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA) with several performances in October 2009.

Unless otherwise noted, tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students, staff and faculty with ID.  HCC's Horowitz Center is located on campus at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia, Maryland 21044.

Referred to as the “New Testament of the Western keyboard repertoire” and great monuments in the history of Western music, Ludwig van Beethoven’s 32 Piano Sonatas are performed in a series of eight appearances by one of the foremost interpreters of his music, Anne Koscielny, who has performed the complete cycle of Beethoven piano sonatas throughout the United States. She was a winner of many awards and prizes including first prize in the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition in New York City, first prize in the National Guild of Piano Teachers Recording Competition, and a Fulbright Award to study in Austria.

Sonatas performed in this concert: Sonata Op. 10 No. 2, Op. 31 No. 2 the “Tempest,” and Op. 106 “Hammerklavier.”

HCC Faculty Jazz Quintet

Performers are Kyle Coughlin, saxophone; Todd Butler, trumpet; Alan Blackman, piano; Amy Shook, bass and Tom Williams, drums.  The concert will feature original compositions by members of the quintet.
