Released October 2, 2009 (Columbia, MD) – On October 14, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Smith Theatre at Howard Community College (HCC), Dr. Temple Grandin will give a 90-minute presentation on her most recent book, “Why Animals Make Us Human.” One of the most recognized and esteemed adults with autism in the world, Dr. Grandin is a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and uses her unique perspective to design humane livestock handling facilities. In her groundbreaking and best-selling book ”Animals in Translation,” Dr. Grandin drew on her own experience with autism as well as her distinguished career as an animal scientist to deliver extraordinary insights into how animals think, act, and feel. Now, with “Why Animals Make Us Human,” she builds on those insights to show us how to give our animals the best and happiest life—on their terms, not ours. A question and discussion session, book signing and light refreshments will follow Dr. Gradin’s presentation. This event is free and open to the public. Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and doors will open at 6:00 p.m. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life at 443-518-4896 or studentlife@howardcc.edu.
