
Released October 16, 2009 (Columbia, MD) – The Howard Community College (HCC) Music Department invites the public to experience the intimate, acoustically-engineered John G. Monteabaro Recital Hall in the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA) with several performances in late October and November. Unless otherwise noted, tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students, staff and faculty with ID. David Wasser Piano Recital Pianist David Wasser will perform “Appassionata” Sonata by Beethoven, Op. 55 Nocturnes by Chopin, Mephisto Waltz by Liszt as well as works by Scarlatti and Schubert. HCC Faculty Jazz Quintet Performers are Kyle Coughlin, saxophone; Todd Butler, trumpet; Alan Blackman, piano; Amy Shook, bass and Tom Williams, drums. The concert will feature original compositions by members of the quintet. Monteabaro Recital Hall Commemorative Concert Members of the HCC music faculty come together in this concert. Program features works for piano solo, duo and trio, ukulele, and voice by Liszt, Bolcom, Piazzolla, Denhard, Puccini and more. Octtava Piano Duo Concert Pianists and HCC faculty members Wei-Der Huang and Hsien-Ann Meng will perform music for two pianos by Amy Beach, Sergei Rachmaninoff, William Bolcom and the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by Taiwanese composer, Sally Chen. Beethoven Piano Sonata Concert III Referred to as the “New Testament of the Western keyboard repertoire” and great monuments in the history of Western music, Ludwig van Beethoven’s 32 Piano Sonatas are performed in a series of eight appearances by one of the foremost interpreters of his music, Anne Koscielny, who has performed the complete cycle of Beethoven piano sonatas throughout the United States. She was a winner of many awards and prizes including first prize in the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition in New York City, first prize in the National Guild of Piano Teachers Recording Competition, and a Fulbright Award to study in Austria. Sonatas performed in this concert: Sonata Op. 22, Op. 90, Op. 49 No. 1 and Op. 31 No. 3 “The Hunt.” Three Come hear exciting renditions of noted pop/rock composers as well as original compositions from this newly formed group featuring Max Murray on bass, Frank Russo on drums and HCC jazz instructor Alan Blackman on piano.
