More High School Students Now Eligible for Tuition Discount at HCC
To broaden access to higher education for high school students, the Howard Community College Board of Trustees recently voted to expand its tuition discount to all high school students who are residents of Howard County and take college courses while still in high school. This action means that home school and private school students will receive the same 50 percent tuition discount as Howard County Public School System students.
Through the college’s Early Entrance program, students in grades 8–12 can take get a jump start on college while still in high school. This program is designed for high-achieving students who want to get ahead and save money, while taking on a new academic challenge. Early Entrance students are dually enrolled at both their high schools and at Howard Community College. Students earn college credit for the successful completion of college courses, but simultaneous high school credit may also be available. The awarding of high school credit is arranged through the high schools.
