About the Actors StudioThe Actors Studio is a branch of The Howard Community College Student Arts Collective (AC). The AC is HCC's student and community outreach program for performing artists, providing education and performance opportunities to artists of all ages. Our full-time staff includes Sue Kramer and Carol McNeely.
Actors Studio summer programs are appropriate for beginners as well as experienced actors. Students in our full productions learn the ins and outs of life as an actor, from character development and memorization to working as a team and dressing room etiquette. Our courses are held in HCC's Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center. Summer 2008 productions will be mounted in the Horowitz Center's Black Box Theatre. All productions are designed and directed by local professionals.
Our belief is that basic theatrical skills are best-gained through practice in a traditional theatre setting. Students leave our summer programs with the skills and techniques needed to succeed in future productions. While we focus on basic "straight play" theatrical education, our productions often incorporate other performance skills such as music and dance. We find that each student brings unique talents to our programs, all of which are embraced on our stage.
