Stage Director - LPOIJohn Bowen is the founder and general director of Opera Vivente, a chamber opera company dedicated to presenting opera in exciting ways in intimate settings. His directing credits include Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia and The Turn of the Screw, Dido and Aeneas, Werther, Così fan tutte, Hoiby’s The Scarf, Menotti’s The Medium, Pelléas and Mélisande, Don Pasquale, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Handel’s Agrippina and Tamburlaine, Mollicone’s The Face on the Barroom Floor, Puccini’s Le villi, Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, Copland’s The Tender Land, Rossini’s An Italian Girl in Algiers and Stravinsky’s Mavra and Renard. In addition, Dr. Bowen has written new translations for Così fan tutte, Agrippina, Le villi, and La finta giardiniera. For Opera AACC, Bowen has directed Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, Lehár’s The Merry Widow, Menotti’s The Telephone, Barber’s A Hand of Bridge, and Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. He has directed La bohème for the Lancaster Opera Company and several world premieres for Peabody Opera Theatre. This summer he will make his directorial debut at The Atlantic Coast Opera Festival with a scenes program for the Young Artists
