LessonsThe private lesson is the principal method for learning how to properly play a musical instrument. The Music Institute at HCC offers private instruction in piano, voice, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. We have instructors that teach in classical, jazz, contemporary, and rock styles. In addition, we have private lessons in Celtic harp, jazz improvisation, music theory, and composition.
As well as learning how to play an instrument, our students are taught proper playing technique, music theory, correct care of their instrument, and good, solid practice habits.
Placement
The relationship between teacher and student is very important in the learning process so great care is taken in placing each student with a teacher. During the placement process, many factors are considered including, but not limited to, student’s age, experience, scheduling availability, musical interests and goals, and any other concerns and wishes voiced by the student. In addition to the MAC staff, all of whom are also MAC faculty, our department heads play an active role in scheduling and pairing teachers and students. It is this team effort that ensures every MAC student is placed with his/her ideal teacher.
