Summer Programs 2008 Registration:

Step 2.  Make a Credit Card Payment.  If you have registered but have not paid, use this secure online form to submit your payment.

Step 3.  After your registration and payment have been processed, we will send you a confirmation email.  Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

Camp Descriptions

Serious Strings/Orchestra  Designed for students with at least two years of private lessons and/or playing experience who are interested in orchestral and string ensemble performance experiences.  Ensembles are grouped by ability and age from 11-18.  Half Day and Full Day

Piano   Provides piano students with classes and experiences to supplement regular piano lessons. Classes will include pedal technique, ensemble classes, performance techniques, memorization and visualization, and master classes.  Beginners, intermediate and advanced piano students.  Half Day AM only

Kindermusik - Adventures Around the World is for children ages 5 to 7.  Come take a musical journey around the world by exploring some music, dances, instruments, games and languages from Japan, Germany, countries in Africa, England and Mexico.  Peggy Durbin, a certified Kindermusik instructor with fourteen years experience, will teach the camp with an assistant.  Tuition is $300.00 which includes all materials.

Rock Ensemble  A weeklong camp in rock designed to give students the opportunity to play and learn from performing rock musicians.  Students will learn and perform in classes and bands based on ability and style.  Beginners (minimum two years playing experience), intermediate and advanced students.  Half Day and Full Day

World Music/Village Band (Brass/Woodwind/Strings/Percussion) Expand your musical horizons in this ensemble based camp, that will rehearse and perform music from different world traditions on standard western instruments.  Here's your chance to play some Klezmer, Tango, Celtic, Gypsy. Ages 12 and up: Younger students please contact instructor. AM Only

Ukulele The ukulele is enjoying an unprecedented wave of popularity as many folk, pop, and jazz artists have begun to experiment with it's unique sound.  Join Jared Denhard for a week of lessons, workshops and ensemble playing on this good humored and easy to learn instrument.  Learn great strumming and picking techniques, and play music from Bach to the Beatles!  Beginner through advanced uke players are welcome, instruments provided for those who need them.  Ages 12 and up: Younger students please contact instructor. Kids in the Spotlight  A camp designed to give students ages 7 - 11 interested in music theater and choir an opportunity to study acting, vocal training, ensemble training and stage movement.  Students will perform selections from chosen music theatre shows. Tuition is $500.00.

Gemini Piano Trio Chamber Music Workshop  Back by popular demand, the Gemini Piano Trio offers a four-week coaching clinic for a limit of six intermediate to advanced pre-formed groups preferably with performance-ready repertoire.  This includes 4 one-hour coachings and one masterclass with all members of the Gemini Piano Trio.  Possible outreach performing opportunities will be offered.  Depending on the number enrolled, an audition may be held.  As part of the workshop, participants ages 18 and under are able to rehearse and perform with the orchestra camp during the week of June 23, 2008.

          Duo/Trio - Strings, any instrument with piano (may include strings, brass, or woodwinds)
          Quartet/Quintet - Strings, any instrument with piano (may include strings, brass, or woodwinds)

To reserve a spot in this exciting workshop, contact Dr. Benjamin Myers at BMyers@howardcc.edu.  Individual instrumentalists who do not have a pre-formed group must contact Dr. Myers (no later than May 10, 2008) to be put on a waiting list to form a possible chamber group.  There will be no guarantee.

Little Patuxent Opera Institute  will be holding auditions for its Second Annual Workshop, July 28th – August 17th, 2008, on March 7 & 8, 2008.  The Workshop will include an intensive four week period of lessons, coachings, classes, and two performances of a Scenes Program, as well as Master Classes with internationally renowned artists - Ruth Drucker, Gran Wilson, and Sheryl Woods.  Tuition cost is $1,000.00 with some needs based financial aid possible.  Interested singers should submit a headshot, a resume, and a $20 application fee made payable to MI/HCC to Little Patuxent Opera Institute at Howard Community College, HVPA 260K, 10901 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia, MD 21044.  For further information please contact, James Bailey, via email at jbailey@howardcc.edu. , or call 410 772-4871.

Registration, Tuition and Fees:

To reserve a place in the MI Music Camp 2008, a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 must be made by June 1, 2008.  The balance is due no later than two weeks prior to the individual camp’s start date.  An administrative fee of $10.00 is automatically added to every student’s registration and tuition.  Tuition for half day students is $150.00 and for full day students is $300.00 unless otherwise noted below.

Classes will be filled on a ‘First come, first served’ basis.  Space is limited.

Kindermusik Adventures Around the World Tuition is $300.00 which includes craft materials, music CD, 5 pictures folders, and travel bag.

Kids in the Spotlight is $500.00 for two weeks.

How to Register:

1.  Complete Registration Form (available with this brochure, at the MI Office or online at www.howardcc.edu/visitors/mac) and return it to the MI Office with $50.00 deposit no later than June 1, 2008.

2.  Remainder of tuition due two weeks prior to camp starting date.

Start Up and Wind Down

              Before and after camp care for all summer camp programs at HCC is provided by Rep Stage Actors’ Institute.  A staff member will escort students to and from Start-Up and Wind-Down.

Orientation

A brief orientation will take place at 8:00 AM on the first day of every camp. 

T-Shirts:

The MI orders t-shirts for all participants in the camps at no additional cost.  T-shirts will be worn for the recitals at the end of each camp week.

Lunch:

Full day campers will attend supervised lunch from 12 pm to 1 pm.  Bag lunches are required.  Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.

HCC Summer Enrichment Programs:

During the summer, several departments at HCC offer camps, both full and half day.  We all work together to coordinate schedules so that if a camper wants to attend an AM day camp in one area, he/she can attend a PM camp in another.  Camp personnel escort students from camp to camp.

Performance

There will be a performance on the last day of each camp week highlighting what the campers learned and accomplished.
