Summer Programs Gemini Piano Trio Chamber Music Workshop June 19 - July 21, Times TBA The Gemini Piano Trio Chamber Music Workshop is a four-week coaching clinic open to a limit of eight pre-formed intermediate to advanced level groups preferably with performance-ready repertoire. The Workshop offers four coachings, a Master Class, and a final recital; outreach performance opportunities may be available. Interested groups should contact Dr. Benjamin Myers. Individual instrumentalists who do not have a pre-formed group must contact Dr. Myers to be put on a waiting list; there will be no guarantee of placement. Little Patuxent Opera Institute June 25 - July 29, Times TBA The Little Patuxent Opera Institute offers training for moderately advanced and young operatic voices in a nurturing, warm, collegiate environment. Students receive group and private instruction on the various elements of operatic performance and classical vocal arts. Group seminars will be held on audition preparation and techniques, role preparation, lyric diction and maintaining vocal health. Included is a Master Class series with three Master Teachers. Summer Enrichment Programs TMI is proud to announce the return of its full-week, half-day summer enrichment programs! Each of the programs below run either AM or PM and are indicated as such. Acrobatic Fingers (ages 6-8) - AM During this informative and fun class, budding pianists will learn the keys on the keyboard; primary intervals, rhythm, and counting; and how to play pieces together with their class friends. Students will also use their musical imagination as they create their own original piece using the knowledge they learn during the week. Trombone Choir (ages 13-18) - PM Keep your trombone chops in top shape this summer and experience the rich, beautiful sound of a trombone choir! Jared Denhard, trombonist in the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble and O'Malley's March, will direct this week long, half-day trombone fest that includes workshops, rehearsals, and a concluding performance of exciting trombone repertoire from medieval times to pop and jazz favorites. Ages 13 and up, younger with permission of instructor. Gumbo Ensemble (ages 10-18) PM Gumbo Ensembles are for students of all ages with relative proficiency on their instruments. The ensembles are geared to individuals interested in performing many popular styles of music ranging from rock and country, to pop and jazz. Singers are welcome. Limited to 8 players per ensemble. All groups will perform on the afternoon of June 29th. The Village Band (ages 13-18) - PM All brass, woodwind, string, and percussion players are invited to join this fun and lively ensemble to rehearse and perform ragtime, tango, klezmer, early jazz, and oom-pah music in authentic arrangements. Led by multi-instrumentalist Jared Denhard, this week-long workshop will explore the musical vernacular of various cultural traditions. Ages 13 and up, younger with permission of the instructor. Piano Performance Workshop (ages 9-15) - AM The Piano Performance Workshop is designed for students who are playing at the early intermediate level or higher. The class will focus on solo piano and piano duet literature as well as Music Theory and Music History. Explore and enjoy a variety of musical styles found in Classical and World Music, playing pieces written for more than one hand. Come join us as we have fun playing the piano! This class is limited to 10 participants. Ukulele Ensemble (13-18) - PM Hop on the uke wagon and be part of the "third wave" of ukulele madness. A week-long, half-day workshop for uke players from beginner through advanced, players will learn basic chords, strum patterns, and notes. There will be plenty of support for new players and plenty of challenges for the more seasoned ukulists! Ages 13 and up, younger with permission of the instructor. Summer Orchestra - Classical 2 Jazz (ages 10-17) - PM Come beat the summer heat and brush up your orchestra and chamber music skills with our Summer Orchestra program. Participants will explore a variety of music in styles ranging from Classical to Fiddle to Jazz, culminating in a performance on July 13th. The program is open to violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists with a required playing level of Suzuki Book 3 or above. Open to students from the ages of 10 to 17. Summer Orchestra - Movie Theme Music (ages 10-17) - PM Come beat the summer heat and brush up your orchestra and chamber music skills with our Summer Orchestra program. Participants will explore a variety of music that has appeared in some of the last five decades of movie history, culminating in a performance on July 20th. The program is open to violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists with a required playing level of Suzuki Book 3 or above. Open to students from the ages of 10 to 17. |
