CALLING ALL MALE SINGERS Click here for more information on auditions Click here for the application form for LPOI 2012 The Little Patuxent Opera Institute is an intensive, yet fun vocal workshop for singers who wish to participate in the exploration, study, and performance of operatic arias, scenes, musical theater repertoire and shorter complete works. The Institute offers training for young operatic voices in a nurturing, warm, collegiate environment and is designed to include lessons, coachings, acting classes, and Master Classes with internationally renowned artists and teachers. Students receive group and private instruction on the various elements of operatic performance and classical vocal arts, including character development, technique, and stage movement and blocking. This summer's program runs from June 25th through July 29th. Auditions are held in early and mid-spring, and the workshop culminates in summer performances. Click here to view the LPOI Program Flyer. Our repertoire will be determined based on the outcome of our auditions. The repertoire will include musical theatre, operetta, operatic scenes with the possible addition of one or more one act operas. Our training program culminates with three performances running July 27th through July 29th. The performances on the 27th & 29th will include both particpant levels and will may include one act operas and scenes to be chosen from the standard literature. The performance on the 28th will be for the Apprentice Level participants and will include mostly musical theatre repertoire with some light opera or operetta repertoire possibly being included. All repertoire choices will be decided upon the completion of our auditions. During your audition we will ask all participants to give us some ideas of what they would like to prepare and perform during their time at the Little Patuxent Opera Institute. We will also have at least one Aria and Art Song Recital this summer to take place in mid-July.
A typical day at LPOI includes all of the following; adjustments are made based upon individual and group needs. Private vocal lessons Cost The tuition/fee cost for our Studio Artists program is $950.00/$50.00. For our Apprentice Artists, the cost is $800.00/$50.00. Four equal monthly payments are possible at no additional charge, with the total to be completly paid by July 29, 2012. One college credit is also available for an additional fee.
