Legal Plan Procedure (63.07.23)

College Policy Number/Title:

The Payroll Select Legal Plan was established to provide personal legal services for eligible employees, their spouses or dependent children.  A complete list of services and other information regarding the Legal Plan are on file in the office of human resources.

Eligibility

Eligible employees include:

  • full- and part-time position control/budgeted employees
  • adjunct credit faculty

Eligible dependents include:

  • spouses and domestic partners
  • unmarried children and domestic partner's unmarried children (as defined by IRS) up to the age of 21 provided they depend on the employee for support
Enrollment

Initial and subsequent enrollment for eligible employees occurs during the annual open enrollment period.  New employees can elect to participate in the Legal Plan by completing election forms within 30 days of employment. After joining the Legal Plan, employees cannot terminate their participation until the next open enrollment.

Domestic Partners are defined as:

  1. The partners must have attained a minimum age, usually 18
  2. Neither person is related by blood closer than is permitted by state law for marriage
  3. The partners must have a committed relationship
  4. The partners must be financially interdependent
  5. The partners must live in the same household
