All employees contribute 7.65 percent of their salary to social security.  As a benefit mandated by the Federal Insurance Contribution Act (FICA), the employer matches this contribution.  The total contribution is 15.3 percent. The employer share is 7.65 percent.  Social Security benefits may be awarded in the event of disability, retirement or death.  General and personal account information about Social Security benefits is available from the Social Security Administration.
