APA style is used primarily in the sciences and social sciences disciplines.
The Electronic Resources contained in the HCC Library’s databases come from a variety of sources, including scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias, and e-books.
In July 2009, a new 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association was published. The new edition incorporates the 2007 APA Style Guide to Electronic References which includes APA’s use of the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number, when available, for citing electronic resources. The DOI is a unique alphanumeric string, beginning with 10, assigned by a registration agency (the International DOI Foundation) to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the Internet.
Generally, journal, magazine and newspaper articles should be cited just as they would be in print formats, followed by the name of the database used or the new DOI information. Always pay particular attention to format and punctuation.
