Need help with APA citations?

Articles from the HCC library's tronic resources come from different kinds of sources, such as journals, magazines, newspapers, and encyclopedias. Most of these sources are available in paper formats, too. Therefore, when you put an article from an electronic resource on your works cited list or bibliography, you must add some extra information to explain that you got the article online rather than on paper.

Journal, magazine, and newspaper articles should be cited just as they would be in print formats, followed by the date you retrieved the article and the proper name of the database. Always pay particular attention to format and punctuation.

APA style differs primarily from MLA style in that the date is always the second item in your citation. APA is used primarily in sciences and social sciences, and these disciplines require that the information used in research be up-to-date.
